The rules

How to Play.

Fifteen holes. Fourteen pegs. One challenge: keep jumping until only one peg remains. The rules are simple; mastering the game takes practice.

01

Start with one empty hole

Place 14 metal pegs in the 15 holes of the triangular board, leaving one hole empty.

02

Jump a peg

Move a peg over one adjacent peg into an empty hole immediately beyond it. Remove the peg you jumped.

03

Finish with one

Keep making legal jumps until no moves remain. The ultimate goal is to leave just one peg on the board.

What counts as a legal move?

A move must follow a straight line of holes on the triangular board. The peg you move jumps over exactly one neighboring peg and lands in the empty hole directly after it.

You cannot move into an occupied hole, skip an empty hole, or jump over two pegs at once. Every successful jump removes one peg.

Example: A filled hole, followed by another filled hole, followed by an empty hole becomes an empty hole, another empty hole, and a filled hole.

Tips for a better game

Plan more than one jump ahead. Watch the corners and edges: an isolated peg can be hard to reach later. If you get stuck, reset the board and try a different sequence.
